MTN Ghana and Telecel Ghana have launched commercial 5G networks in Accra, marking the beginning of the next generation of mobile telecommunications in Ghana. The launch makes Ghana one of the first African countries with widespread 5G availability.
The 5G rollout includes:
- Initial coverage in Accra, Kumasi, and Takoradi
- 100 Mbps average download speeds
- Ultra-low latency for gaming and real-time applications
- Support for IoT and smart city applications
- 5G-enabled devices available at subsidized prices
MTN has invested $200 million in the initial phase, with plans for nationwide coverage by 2025. The company is offering 5G at competitive rates to drive adoption.
