Ghanaian para-athletes have set new world records at the World Para Athletics Championships, winning 7 gold medals in the process. This is Ghana's best ever performance at a major para-sports event.
Record-breakers include:
- Abugri Raphael (F57 shot put): New world record
- Anita Fordjour (T54 100m): New world record
- Charles Narh Teye (T47 javelin): New world record
- 4x100m relay team: New African record
The success has been attributed to:
- Improved training facilities at the Accra Sports Stadium
- Specialized coaching for para-athletes
- Better equipment and support
- Increased funding from the National Sports Council
The Minister of Youth and Sports congratulated the athletes and announced that the government would provide cash rewards and housing packages for the medalists.
The National Paralympic Committee is now focused on preparing for the Paralympic Games, with hopes of winning Ghana's first Paralympic gold medals.
