Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Expansion

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana's largest hospital, is undergoing a massive GHS 500 million expansion to increase its capacity and improve healthcare delivery.

The expansion includes:
- New 500-bed maternity block
- Modern surgical center with 20 operating theaters
- Expanded emergency department
- Advanced diagnostic center (MRI, CT scans, PET scans)
- Additional doctors' and nurses' accommodation
- Medical waste treatment facility

The project, funded by the government and a $200 million World Bank loan, is expected to be completed by 2026. When finished, it will make Korle Bu one of the largest and best-equipped hospitals in West Africa.

The Minister of Health emphasized that this expansion is part of efforts to reduce medical tourism and improve access to quality healthcare for Ghanaians.
