The Mental Health Authority of Ghana has launched a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about mental health and reduce the stigma associated with mental illness.
Campaign components:
- Television and radio programs
- Social media engagement
- Community outreach events
- School-based education
- Workplace mental health programs
Key messages:
- Mental health is health
- Seeking help is a sign of strength
- Mental illness is treatable
- Support those with mental health challenges
The campaign features prominent Ghanaians sharing their mental health experiences, including celebrities, athletes, and professionals who have faced mental health challenges.
According to the Mental Health Authority, about 3 million Ghanaians live with some form of mental illness, but only 2% seek professional help due to stigma and lack of access to services.
The Authority is also working to improve access to mental healthcare by training more psychiatrists and psychologists, and integrating mental health services into primary healthcare.
