The two leading presidential candidates have announced their running mates for the 2024 elections. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP has selected Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the current Minister of Education, as his running mate.
Former President John Mahama of the NDC has chosen Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate. This is the first time a major party has selected a female running mate in Ghana's history.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, a former Minister of Education and renowned academic, brings significant experience and the appeal to women voters. Her selection is seen as a strategic move to attract female voters who constitute about 52% of registered voters.
