Key features of the e-Cedi:
- Offline functionality for areas without internet
- Integration with existing mobile money systems
- Support for both person-to-person and merchant transactions
- No transaction fees during pilot phase
- Instant settlement
The pilot is part of Ghana's broader digitalization agenda and aims to:
- Increase financial inclusion
- Reduce the cost of printing and managing physical currency
- Improve payment system efficiency
- Position Ghana as a leader in CBDC adoption
If successful, a full national rollout is expected in 2025.
