A coalition of governments, NGOs, and pharmaceutical companies has launched a global initiative to vaccinate 100 million children in developing countries against preventable diseases over the next five years.
The initiative, backed by $5 billion in funding, will focus on:
- Measles, polio, and pneumonia vaccines
- Healthcare worker training
- Cold chain infrastructure
- Remote delivery systems
The World Health Organization estimates this could save 5 million lives. Major donor countries have pledged support, though some critics argue more focus is needed on healthcare system strengthening.
