12 February 2026 — The Ghana Police Service has arrested 15 individuals suspected of involvement in prostitution and human trafficking in the New Juaben South Municipal area of Koforidua, Eastern Region.
The operation followed a complaint from a Nigerian national alleging she was trafficked into Ghana and forced to engage in commercial sex work under exploitative conditions. Further investigation uncovered an active brothel, leading to the arrest of other suspects, including alleged accomplices.
Police confirmed that minors were among those detained, prompting immediate welfare interventions by the Department of Social Welfare. The suspects are expected to face charges under sections of the Criminal Offences Act relating to prostitution, human trafficking, and brothel operation.
Authorities emphasised that landlords who facilitate such illegal operations will face prosecution, and urged community members to report suspicious activities to support ongoing anti‑trafficking efforts.
